Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 10, 2023
Today’s Text: Romans 12:1-8
Key Verses: Romans 12:3 (ESV): “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.”

The third dimension grace may be found in Paul’s letter to believers in Rome—an epistle written to explain: that all people everywhere may have free access to God’s riches of grace; that we came to the light of the gospel, as lost people, who simply found grace, whether we are Greeks or barbarians, wise or foolish. This dimension of grace humbles us. It teaches us that no single one of us is permitted to think more highly of himself than necessary.
It points every believer to the fact that whoever we are, or whatever we have in/through Christ, has nothing to do with us. We simply have been gifted according to the grace given to each of us. Therefore, grace, in our lives must be manifested through humble service to others and character development. No matter the level we are graced to operate in—whether in the grace of prophecy, ministry, Bible teaching, exhorting, giving, administering, and showing of mercy—we have received them all by mercy not by merit.
Therefore, we must learn two basic things: humility and focus. In humility, we must recognize that we are graced to operated in one among varied gifts, and have need for others in the Church prevents us from being unduly proud. Grace gives a place to everyone: novices or matured, wealthy or poor. And, we must be focused: giving diligence to serving well in any special sphere we have been so graced.
Quote for the Day: “Apart from the gift of grace, none of us can perform any spiritual duty aright. Indeed, there is no good in us without God; and no matter our level of grace, we are still frail, mortal, limited and imperfect." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I am far too often influenced by what others think of me, and what I want them to. Help me to desist from the futility of pretending to be who I am not. Prevent me from trying to attract attention. And help me to neither gloat over the praise of men nor be discouraged by their criticism — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
