Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 21, 2022
Today’s Text: Philippians 3:1-11
Key Verse: Philippians 3:10 (KJV): “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.”

During a recent discipleship class, I asked participants if they know Jeffrey Preston Bezos, popularly known as Jeff Bezos. And everyone indicated that they know him. But the question is: do we really know him, or do we know about him? When we read a lot about someone and have much details about them; we usually assume that we know them. The same is true about God. We often forget that there is a huge difference between reading about the Lord and experiencing Him personally in our lives as Lord and Savior. To believe the testimony of the Church that Jesus saves is one thing, but to see and experience the depth and breadth of His redeeming love for us is quite another.
Encountering God personally is the sincere desire of every child of God. God wants us to know Him. He has revealed Himself through scripture. The Bible reveals God’s expectations for us and shows us how far we have wandered from Him. Through scriptures, we are challenged to repent of our sins, to turn to the Lord, know Him, follow Him and serve Him. All these only happen as a result of personal experience of Christ. Paul expresses a desire for a personal knowledge of Christ that results from an intimate relationship. We all need more than theoretical or intellectual knowledge of the Lord. We need to know Him by experience. Eternal life, according to Jesus, is to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent. That is what Paul meant when he prayed to know Him. The question to you this morning is: do you know Him? Have you gone past a superficial understanding of God? Today, God is inviting us to a personal acquaintance with Him through knowing Jesus Christ, His Son.
Quote for the Day: “We do not know the taste of food by smelling it, no, it comes by eating. Neither do we know the glory of music by studying it; we do only by hearing it. We know Jesus Christ only by a personal encounter with Him." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to know You. Please give me a deeper knowledge and understanding of who You are. Reveal Yourself to me in a personal, much deeper, and maturing way, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
