Doing Good, Touching Lives

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, November 28, 2021

Today’s Text: Galatians 6:6-10

Key Verse: Galatians 6:9 (ESV): “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

ree

We arrived the U.S. having no iota of idea or clue to how God would shape the way—though we have confidence He will—but all the same, the surmised mist ahead was deep enough and more than scary. But God has a plan. He had positioned an amazing friend who treated us like real family, and gives anything to make sure we were able to feed, serve God, have mobility, not fail to enroll for classes, and able to have basic necessities of life. While my friend would prefer not to be mentioned, but make no mistake of thinking that friend to be among the wealthiest. No, far from it! While also not a commoner, every act of kindness we receive has gone and is going into the anals of spiritual chronicles that we found a living proof of Christlike kindness, who teaches us that what is needed to touch lives are ordinary Christians, not those who have it all; but who would gladly reach out to make a difference in other people’s lives in the midst of their own personal struggles.

Apostle Paul called it doing “good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (verse 10). We can help shape others’s lives by showing interest and not holding back when we need to lend a hand. The word of the Lord to all who sow the seed of love and kindness is that a sure season to reap a sure harvest is at hand. Of course, the apostle understands that weariness is real. It is a common feeling especially in our generation when doing good may even become a snare; and the flesh is often weak though the spirit is willing! Sometimes the spirit, too, is weary because of what we sometimes get in return. But it is comforting to know that people who look around and always see someone whose life needs their touch can as well look forward to a day when they shall reap bounteous and beatific harvest. Our blessings are not just in the doing, but in not giving up.

Quote for the Day: “Christians treat weariness as negligence of duty when one has no more joy in a work. We need more than hands to touch others. We need our hearts.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please, grant me a sense of debt, and a Christlike heart of compassion for all people—so burdened for others’ needs so that I will show Your kindness in every day and every way—in attitudes, words, and deeds, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
