Doing What Jesus Says

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, September 6, 2021

Today’s Text: John 2:1-11

Key Verse: John 2:5 (NKJV): “His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.””

The more of Jesus we know the better our reference and submission to Him. The mother of our Lord knew Him, and so reverenced Him where and while others did not even pay attention to Him. Friends, our estimation of Jesus determines how we revere His words and honor Him in our life. The experience at Cana speaks to the day-to-day life of an average Christian. We have all invited Him to our life but we seem to have it all together without Him. We have a better plan. We have a different master charging our affairs. And even when things go wrong, we don't easily or readily remember to run back to Him. We either try to fix it our own way or seek help where there are non. But God, in His infinite mercy, is always reaching out for us whenever we missed it. He always positions an index finger to point us back to course.

This scripture threshing is that finger today just like Mary was in today's passage. God wants to point us to the fact that He is speaking amid our chaos. There is help in hearing His word, and even better still if we hear His word and do whatever He says to do. One of the wisest counselors listed in scripture is Ahitophel but his counsel became foolishness: teaching us that human help however wise and good would be folly if God is not in it. It is therefore great wisdom to yield an unhesitating submission to the wisdom of our Lord. If He has spoken once, to hear Him twice. If He has not, to wait diligently and watch for what He would say to us. So that whenever and whatever He says, we do. Implicit obedience to Jesus Christ is what we are called to do. We called to be in submission to Him in the sense that we are not our own, but sheep of His pasture. By His redemption and provision, we have a better chance if can do whatever He says to us.

Quote for the Day: “Believers’ true test of service and submission is not whether or not we call Him “Lord, Lord!” But whether or not we do whatever He says?” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, obedience is a proof of my love to you, and opens God’s door of blessings to my life. Please give me a humble heart to yield to your instructions at all times. Help me obey you and be flexible for your guidance, in Jesus' name. Amen.

I welcome you to join our midweek services on Wednesday: Scripture Pasture by 7.00 pm CST; and Friday Power Contact by 7.00 pm CST.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
