Today’s Text: 1 Kings 21:1-4
Key Verse: 1 Kings 21:3 (ESV) — “But Naboth said to Ahab, “The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers.”

We engage an unseen, untold and unpublished direct and indirect spiritual commerce in our lives. There is an ongoing spiritual trade by barter everyday. The enemy of the human soul is always seeking every opportunity to make an exchange every moment and on every occasion. When you allow him a thing, he can rob and disallow you of much. When he gives you a stitch in time, he can gain an eternal nine off of you. Unfortunately, many have fallen prey to the devil’s desire. They have negotiated or are negotiating or trading their spiritual inheritance with him for an exchange of glories that have no foundation.
Do not get this wrong. You may not see devil in today’s text; but understand that every physical occurrence has a spiritual undertone. Believe it or not, we all have a beautiful vineyard beside the palace of that spiritual wicked king. And he is jealous of any good in us. And he is seeking to take the best of us. We have, in this text, an example of the devil’s negotiation with Jesus during his earthly temptation. We have an example of the caution God gave the people of Israel when they were desiring a human king. He warned them that seeking after an earthly rule will draft them into an unlimited liability — a spiritual, political and economic disequilibrium. For he (the king) will take their fields, and vineyards, and olive yards, and take the best of them.
Do not give that devil the rule of your heart. Do not pitch your tent by his palace. The way you live your life, and who has control of it determines whether this is what you are doing or not. If you pitch your garden by “Ahab,” you are inviting him. He will not only take possession. He will also take position. Your life and possession is already an attraction to the devil. He is only seeking a foothold to do his devouring work. So, not only will “Ahab” come for your garden (i.e. your spiritual inheritance), he will come for your soul. This is a caution against worldly enticement and discontentment. It takes an individual’s desire to possess more before there can be a motive to trade. Don’t trade your soul for wealth. Don’t trade it for fame. Don’t trade it for anything. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, but lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36)
Quote for the Day: “It is wise not to trade our soul for anything that has no eternal value. For everything and every choice does have eternal consequences.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me the will power to make godly decisions in all areas of my life, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
