Today’s Text: Psalm 2:1-12
Key Verses: Psalm 2:1 (ESV): “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?”

One does not need to look too deep into Psalm 2 before realizing it’s a prophetic message with clear Messianic implications. God is working out an everlasting covenant through His chosen people, and all peoples, nations, kings and rulers are warned to drop their weapons and desist from forming resistance against His purpose. Regardless of how their weapons are fashioned: through raging or imagination, avowing themselves like Nineveh did, taking counsel together like Herod the Great, Herod the Tetrarch, Pilate and other princes and magistrates who tried to stop God’s plan did — it is all in vain. That’s the idea of “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?” It’s like saying: it’s a senseless vanity to fashion machinations against God.
This is a word of solace to all God’s children, who do not know that the God they serve is terrible on their behalf. Like Nahum (1:8–13) pictures God’s dramatic approach to making a complete end of His adversaries,
and pursuit of His enemies into darkness; David tells them to drop their weapon because there is no need for them. So, what about you? Why should you live in fear when your enemies are already like entangled thorns, and are consumed like stubble fully dried. God’s people can just chill, and tell that devil to drop his weapon. Hear what the Lord says, “Though they are at full strength and many, they will be cut down and pass away... I will break his yoke from off you
and will burst your bonds apart.” (Nah 1:12,13)
Quote for the Day: “God defends His people with an infinitely jealous and boundless love so that they need not fear any weapon or its fashioner against us." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask you would embolden my faith. Help me have confidence that you will always be there for me and will never leave or forsake me. Thank you for your tender love for me — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
