Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, November 3, 2021
Today’s Text: Matthew 20:1-16
Key Verse: Matthew 20:9 (NLT): “When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage.”
The year is far spent, and everything belonging to 2021 is looking up towards a gradual close. In our very eyes the 11th month is here, and the year is near its shutdown. But we serve a God who never comes late regardless of when He arrives. He delights in stepping in when you think everything is caving in around you. He knows how best to bestow victory at the last minute. When this happens, we often use the phrase “eleventh hour” to describe the miracle or blessing.
History has great examples of such divine interventions or interpositions. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, God caused the Great War to end as Germany signed an armistice agreement outside Compiegne, France. Some biblical figures enjoyed last minute blessings: Abraham and Sarah’s blessing of conception at an impossible age was a great example. Zechariah and Elizabeth also was another example. Lazarus’s case seemed past the eleventh hour; but God still came through at the end. The thief at the side of Christ’s Cross was offered eternal life at the 11th hour.
Today’s text teaches us that despite being brought on the job at the 11th hour of hard vineyard work — a time most unsuitable for any beginnings; when the sun is on the wrong side of the day, when the night comes and no man can work, when human strength and the ability is low, I mean at a time to be weary, and long for home going— the late comers were not too late afterall. That’s why it’s a miracle! No matter your situation, I see an 11th-hour miracle coming your way though you think things are rather too late. As the year hastens to its end, God will grant you those last minute blessings that have eluded you all year. Do not lose faith. Keep trusting. Hold unto God. The wages of your prayer are assured.
Quote for the Day: “The greatest marvel of grace is that with God, it is never too late.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I come before You, just as I am, I put my trust in You. Please pour forth upon me those blessings that seem too hard and too late to get, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
