Today’s Scripture Threshing for Monday, April 15, 2019
Today’s Text: Luke 10:38–42
Key Verse: Luke 10:41–42 (ESV): “But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things.”
We can be grateful that the Scripture is full of imperfect people that often mirror our lives quite well—people who help us learn how to refocus our busy and clouded lifestyles. One of these bunch of imperfect example is this friend of Jesus called Martha, who allowed excitement to draw her into the error of negligence, and familiarity syndrome.
Often, visits of our close friends are not usually greeted with deliberate attention and needed spiritual alertness. We have, here, before us the visit of the Lord, and Martha was soaked up in mismanaged and misguided preparation. Yes, she was a true believer and a friend of Jesus; and she has a general conduct of core; yet she lacked the spiritual sensitivity to discern the difference between the good and the needful, the expedient and the profitable. As such, the casualized and slipped into the error of familiarity with the Holy.
Quote for the Day: “Our greatest charge in Martha’s story is that all believers must mind the one thing needful more deliberately, decisively and diligently.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You would not suffer Martha to miss the mark: You called her back. Lord, caution and help me to do the needful—help me to always pursue that which is needed. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayer,
