Today’s Scripture Threshing for Friday, April 19, 2019
Today’s Text: Matthew 5:1-12
Key Verse: Matthew 5:3 (ESV): “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
We have been severally called and charged to come a little bit off of the edge and dive deeper into more worthy attitude and lifestyle acceptable unto God. The big picture before us all has been just one thing: God wants us to realize our need for Him. He wants us to empty ourselves before Him for true in-filling. This is a disposition of the heart and not simply economic deprivation. Except we realize and recognize our spiritual place and need, we’d not be able to relate well with God’s grace, and holiness.
As we trust God to deal with all forms of spiritual deprivations resulting from our negligence of spiritual need for Him; we must not get pass this juncture without replacing our self-reliance with childlike reliance upon God. We must give up our self-confidence with submissive confidence in Him alone. Poverty in spirit is all we need to shun the dough that puffs our flesh to despise the Holy things of God.
When we do, we pass from a self-determination into a life of sovereign grace; from self-esteem into magnificent mercy for the unworthy — this heals our self-exoneration or admiration and submits to the Lord’s exhortation and exaltation of us. That’s when our relationship with the Holy is place in the right perspective. For Abraham, relating with the Lord about Sodom and Gomorrah must never be taken for granted. He said, “Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes” (Genesis 18:27).
Quote for the Day: “It is in understanding ourselves to be worms that we hear God says, ‘I will help you. I am your redeemer ... I will be with you’.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for such a blessing to know your mind for me. My prayer today is like David’s desire Lord, that — “As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!” — in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayer,
