“Forgiveness through Jesus Christ”

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, February 21, 2021

Today’s Text: Acts 13:17-41

Key Verse: Acts 13:38 (KJV) — “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

There is so much crime in our world today because the nature of sin plaques the human race. The Bible tells us that sin gives birth to death; and this is in all metaphorical senses. However, we are invited to deeper thought on how to receive peace and forgiveness of our sins. For the benefit of all, it must suffice to emphasize what we talking about here is forgiveness of sin, not forgiveness of crimes. Wherever there is a crime, there must be a sin; but there may be sin where there is no crime.

Sin is spiritual and crimes are social. Our legal faculties weigh, judge, measure, determine and punish or acquit crimes but have no jurisdiction over sin. They can acquit a sinner of his crimes but not of his sins. Only God, not governments, knows the true nature, measure, penalization and retribution of sin. And only Him has the power of true exoneration for sin. Our system may forgive a crime, but no, not the sin behind crimes. That is why though a criminal is pardoned, he still has a grievous vexation within himself.

This forms the background to this keynote message of today's text. The problem of sin has always been the ever-recurring burden of man. As the way to disburden or unburden ourselves from it has been declared: it is only in, and through Jesus Christ that forgiveness of sin may be found. And it is only by receiving Him by faith that this is achieved. No doubt, this is an offence to our pluralistic society; but the Gospel is not careful to apologize this truth. By its nature, it (the gospel) is an offense both to sinners and the very foundation of their sin.

Only appropriating the death and resurrection of Jesus offers mankind sufficient condition to receive forgiveness of sin. For anyone who comes to Jesus Christ, God reserves a much greater light that no dark shadow of sin can withstand. Therefore, without apologies, we are persuaded and make bold to declare with all scriptural authority that: for a man to have peace with God, he needs his sins forgiven; and to receive the forgiveness of sin and a free offer of salvation, he must first receive Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

Quote for the Day: ”The greatest malady of man is sin, and the only remedy is Jesus Christ.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: (To receive forgiveness of sin by accepting Christ as your Savior, please say the following prayer): Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Please help me to do your will O Lord, in Jesus name. Amen.

If you prayer this prayer for the first time, I welcome you to God’s family with all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
