Today’s Text: Isaiah 40:1-11

Key Verses: Isaiah 40:1-2 (NIV) “Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. Speak lovingly to the heart of Jerusalem, yes, cry to her that her warfare is done, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she has taken from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins.”

While times have not been funny, God sends us these words of consolation. He wants us to know that our warfare is over: because it is He who fights our battles. The metaphor of warfare suggests and represents any form of troubles we are in today: pandemic, political upheavals, economic issues, and terrorism everywhere. Job asked, "Hath not man a warfare on the earth?" (Job 7:1) No doubt, warfare stands for any willful or forced hardships brought about as a result of the fall. Therefore our sins are always finding us out. Sometimes, they hinder us and make us feel so unworthy and rejected.

This is why God is coming through for us today. He wants us to know that we are totally loved and pardoned. We are no longer prisoners of guilt. The Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the laws of sin and death. All our spiritual debts and their consequences have been canceled so that we no longer have to pay. Right now, the records are clear. This is true for every believer in Christ. Throughout all eternity, we stand before God just as if we have not sinned. Herein lays this uncommon favor: God found us broken by sin, but He Himself paid the penalty for the sin. Indeed, He did more than forgive us: He bestows His delight, covering love, desire, salvation, deliverance, honor, and eternal life and glory upon us. Our warfare is done. We are eternally comforted. Hallelujah! Amen.

Quote for the Day: Only the grace of God does what the law failed, fails, and will fail to do, and more. Christ’s grace removes the guilt imposed by the law, and presents us just as if we never sinned.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for lavishing your grace and mercy on me despite my past. Lord, I need your grace even now in my life more than ever, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
