Free Indeed

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, May 5, 2022

Today Text: John 8:31-59

Key Verse: John 8:36 (NIV): “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

The moment a person enters into spiritual union with Christ, and especially abides in this new spiritual relation, he is a new creatures, and free to enjoy all the abundance that Christ offers. The primary implication of this is that we are freed from sin and liberated to do the will of God. Yes, we must not miss the point of our new creation reality: The freedom that Christ gives is not the right to do what we want, but the ability to do what we ought. This freedom is the ability to do the will of God because Christ has been formed in us.

We were once lost in sin and slaves to sin. And sun, being the corruption of the nature of God, hold us in bondage to His wrath—making us unable to do what is right. But the redemption Jesus offers restores that fractured nature and grants us the power to overcome sin and become truly free. That is what happens when we are made free indeed. We don’t just become members of Christ, but we are given the right to be children of God. And if children indeed, we carry and live out the DNA of our father, whose will It is that all men become free. We are free from the worse bondage to our lustful passions. We are free from all satanic oppression. We are free from the curse of the Law. We are free from the laws of sin and death. And we are free to do the Will of God.

Quote for the Day: “Liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners is the clearest expression and summary of Christ’s work in sinners life.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank You for the freedom that we have enjoyed in You. And often we slip, forget our freedom, and place our faith in the wrong things, in which there is no true freedom. Please help us to make You central, and deliver us from whatever compromises or removes our freedom — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
