God Calls Us to Return

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 5, 2019

Today’s Text: Isaiah 1:1-9

Key Verse: Isaiah 1:2 (ESV): “Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken: ‘Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me’.

A man once had a pet raccoon which he affectionately rared for several months, but he was amazed and frustrated when the raccoon forgot his friendship and turned on him. In fact, there were occasions when the raccoon sank his teeth into the very hands that fed him.

This has a spiritual correlation with the message of Isaiah in this text. The prophet emphasized the unruly behavior of God’s people, Israel. Even while a dumb ox recognizes its owner, and the stubborn donkey its stall; Israel had continued to ignore God’s tender care and had continually provoked Him to anger. They continue to turn away from the Lord like rebellious children until their worship and sacrifices became a stench to God.

This is a call for us to return to the Lord, and serve Him with hearts that are true and pure. He does not want us to face divine judgment, and expose our land of milk and honey to spiritual looters and ransackers. He calls us to hear and heed so that we’d not spurn His grace and mercy. What are the ways you’ve personally turned from God? Repent, and return to Him today. Tomorrow may be too late.

Quote for the Day: “While breathe remains, the moment of grace is not yet past; but why wait when you don’t know your last moment of breathe. The best time to repent is always now!” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I’m tired of the sin struggle in my life. I feel distant from You. My choices have not led me into the right places. I’ve listened to the whispers of my enemy instead of Your words, and the result has been disastrous. Restore the right Spirit within me, Lord. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
