God’s Generous Abundance

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 7, 2022

Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 9:6-12

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT): “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”

What do you understand about, “God is able to make all grace abound toward you”? — If we are careful to approach the word “grace” with the same latitude as in apostle Paul’s description of the word in his previous chapter, then this word, grace shall come alive as every form of bounty, which God in His sovereign magnanimity bestows upon us. The same God who, in all ways and cheerfulness blessed us with resources; is able to yet cause an increase for those who emulate His cheerful giving.

We like to claim this attractive blessing but we don’t position our lives to attract the blessing. If you are God’s instrument of blessing to others, it comes on you by default. God wants you to have more to be able to bless more people. But if you are a hoarder, seeking indiscriminate superfluity to feed selfishness and luxury; then you rob yourself of grace. This may not necessarily remove the blessing — for they are mostly irrevocable — but this is the other aspect of grace abounding. Whatever a man has if the grace of God does not fester upon it; then you know the pain of abundance without sufficiency, wealth without satisfaction, and success without fulfillment.

As true disciples, let us be content, grateful and beneficent. This is how to abound in sufficiency. And that is our position of godliness with contentment which brings us gain — great gain. Let us all, therefore, beware of hoarding disorder, which is not becoming of us as Christ’s followers. What it does to us is that, in the place of being God’s instruments of blessings, it dispossesses us of grace, and positions us as excessive and unprofitable grabbers before God.

Quote for the Day: “Little or no value is immaterial to hoarders. They are just obsessed with grabbing. They may wake up with maggots on their plate, yet they keep on grabbing.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for Your many blessings that I cannot begin to count in my life. Please give me a generous heart that glorifies You, and a cheerful spirit that blesses others out of the abundant blessings I have received — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
