Today’s Text: Mark 13:14-31
Key Verses: Mark 13:15 (KJV) — “And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house.”

Today’s text features a prophecy of Jesus about events that would take place during the second half of the tribulation. The Antichrist would have erected a statue in the temple and would be demanding people to worship him, and there would be no time for anyone, Jews, Proselyte or Gentile to flee to a hiding. As a sign and a warning that the dangerous times are really ahead, the first wave fulfillment to this prophecy occurred in AD 70 when Roman army destroyed Jerusalem and great number of Jews fled in haste to diaspora.
Housetop in today’s context will symbolize our sense of overrated “self,” our present worship of relaxation and pleasure. It relates to what we believe is the highest goal of a existence. We sets our hearts up on high in pride or towards vanity and feel we are in top of the world, don’t we?! Well, it will help to say that in Jesus’ days, housetop were part of the cultural building covered in rushes originally for the purpose of prayer, and teaching of ”Shema Yisrael” (Hear, O Israel), the centerpiece of Jewish morning and evening prayer; which was at this time turned to a place to socialize, relax or sleep.
Hence, our Lord’s allegory to depict the unfortunate generational departure from what lifts God up, to things that liftsthe up human hearts to vanity. Our generations is even more guilty of this: webare given to housetop pleasures and passions. We are driven by a housetop pursuits for money and materials. Unfortunately, when the evil days come; just as inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judea, we shall not have time to gather money to escape the earth to come. This calls for adequate response and repentance.
Quote for the Day: "No time to take any thing out of the house is a figure of speech connoting the extreme certainty of wrath, the urgency of right decision, and the danger of delay.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, let me not be caught like a thief in the nigh. Help me to set my heart on things above, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
