God’s “Let” Diary (Part 120) — Let Him Follow Me

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, October 20, 2020

Today’s Text: John 12:20-33

Key Verses: John 12:26 (KJV) — “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.

Thomas Carlyle is renown for saying “show me the man you honor and I will know what kind of man you are.” Honoring the Lord with our life, body and service is actually a fact in reverse. There is no greater honor in this life than for any of us to be enlisted in the service of the creator. It is already an unimaginable honor that God condescended to our human frame, and imperfection in Christ. It Is a honor that He called us to be His ambassadors. Service is a great honor on its own. Those who serve in royal military services or US military are held in the highest national honor. They are served with the best possible benefits accruable to any citizens. It is therefore so strange that some of us perceive service to the Lord as a burden — something we are to cherish more than any honor; an office which the worldly wise are deprived of; an honor which no one takes upon himself.

Serving the cause of Christ is indeed man’s noblest, highest and purest joy. Of course following Jesus is not without its yokes, but He calls us to “take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” ( Matt) The Christian life is not without its burdens. “For my yoke is easy,” he said, “and my burden is light.” Our Lord Himself sets us an example. He counted it all joy; and, in this text, asks us to follow Him. We must understand and appreciate the honor involved in serving Him. Among other blessings Christ says: where I am, you will be — i.e. since Christ is in the right hand of power, that’s where we are. As He is seated above powers and principalities, that’s where we’re seated. Never take your service as bondage, Except the Christian life is reviewed in this regard, believers may be robbed of the attendant affectionate attitude in service that leads to the highest promised honor.

Quote for the Day: "Serving the cause of Christ is indeed man’s noblest, highest and purest joy.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask for a humble heart that yields to Your will with joy. Help me to follow when You lead. Qualify me for Your honor, in Jesus name. Amen

With all my love and prayers,
