Today’s Text: Acts 2:22-36
Key Verses: Acts 2:36 (KJV) — “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
During the earthly days of Jesus Christ, as it were today, several people go by the name of ‘Jesus.’ You probably heard of Elymas, the Bar-Jesus, a Jew described in the 13th chapter of Acts of the Apostles; or of another Jesus, called Justus in the 4th chapter of Colossians. In recent times, likewise, I have worked with many Spanish folks by the name Jesus. However, our today’s text makes a clear and particular clarification of the identity and authority of Jesus the Christ in the line of prophetic declaration and reality. While anyone may be culturally motivated to pick a good name in identification of his heroes; or of a reputable man of character like Christ. Petet says, please don’t you ever mix it up. The Jesus we bare witness about is the same Jesus that bore that name in a grand prophetic manner. His embodies His calling, office, covenant and the ministry of His saving grace over His people Israel and over all the world.
At Pentecost, Apostle Peter helped clarify that while any other man may freely pick on the name Jesus for the sake of identification; to us, the name of Christ is deeper and higher than proper nouns. The Apostle have walked with Christ, touched Him, and have been touched by Him, and so remained as convinced as he was in the beginning when he confessed that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16) It is the same Jesus, whom they crucified; the same Jesus, whom the Jews despised, rejected and nailed to the cross; it is He whom the Jews reviled as ordinary, His ways as folly, and His Lordship as blasphemy — that same Jesus forgives their sins and those of the world. And as such is both Lord and Savior. Therefore let all the house of Israel know is an emphasis of assurance. Yes, they, and all men must know Him assuredly, experientially above the head knowledge. We must know Him as One upon whom our life and salvation depend.
Quote for the Day: “All Israel have known the prophecies; let them all now know the promise-personified. Let them know their Lord and Savior. For all knowledge is vain except the savior is known.
Prayer: Lord, help me and my generation to know You and the power of your resurrection, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
