God’s “Let” Diary (Part 132) — Let Their Table be Made a Snare

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, November 4, 2020

Today’s Text: Romans 11:1-10

Key Verses: Romans 11:9 (KJV) — “And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them.”

Today’s text is one of the major apostolic reflections on the disobedience of the great majority of the Jewish people. History holds it against them that because of momentary bread, some of them would rather ignore God’s provision of restoration and stay back in their exile. The attitude was not very different in the days of Christ. They followed Him because of bread. Yet, this attitude was still not very different in the days of Paul. However, God’s providence is like a free open train. All may come onboard while it is still on grace station. Unfortunately, because of transient gains, many let seasonal things rob them of higher blessings. O how man’s enemy so easily beset him with easy snares through his filthy lucre: so that for rejecting God’s provision, the unregenerate man suffers the natural punishment of unbelief.

There are many ways in which our generation takes after the unsuspecting children of Israel’s. Let us approach this by asking ourselves some questions: Economically, if a believer gives up his conviction for the pursuit of daily bread, does he not also sets a snare on his own way? Politically, if we so easily sell off our rights and future to the hands of wicked politicians for a piece of bread, is our table not made our snare? Spiritually, if we sell off our soul to the evil occult for the sake of fortune and fame, is our table not our trap and stumbling-blocks? While we ponder on these rhetorical questions, let us be reminded that despite the corruption in our cities and churches, there is always a true remnants of righteousness in every age. Apostle Paul was a living proof that God hath not utterly cast away his people. Elijah was not the only prophet who has not bowed down to Baal. And in the same way, you and I can take a different position, in our age, for the name and sake of our God.

Quote for the Day: “The gospel of Christ neither destroys the law nor republishes it; it redefines it. But it also offers freedom for those who embrace it, and grace for those who love and follow Jesus.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I take a stand against filthy lucre and all its controlling influence through pleasure obtained dishonestly, in Jesus' name. Amen.

I wish you a happy new month with all my love and prayers,
