God’s “Let” Diary (Part 143) — Let No Man Deceive Himself

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, November 21, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 3:18-20

Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV) — “Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.”

Every spiritual malady definitely has a cure. There’s been so much disparities, segregations and party spirit in the Church at Corinth that some people often refer to it as a troubled church. However, Apostle Paul finds a proper cure for a major curve to genuine fellowship among the brethren: each Christian man and woman must avoid self deception, embrace self abasement to achieve divine elevation. Among the vital points of strife and pride that divide Corinthian church and today’s church is our claim to superiority or wisdom. As we have seen, wisdom forms a key idea of this epistle; and the Apostle is here contrasting true wisdom with the false.

To the apostle, wisdom of this world does not support spirituality. It makes a person devoid of self control but rather slip unto self conceit or deceit. No doubt, the worldly wisdom has it own place and use within its own sphere; but does not avail when it comes to understanding the things of God. Secular mindset and wisdom almost always hinder spiritual mindedness. If you let yourself be driven by worldly wisdom, you would be far alienated from learning the things of God. Therefore, we must submit to the Holy Spirit to break us down and liberate us from fancied fleshly wisdom. For except we become fools in our own eyes, how shall the Holy Spirit help us to become wise towards God.

Quote for the Day: “Just as a puffed up student cannot learn, a lifted spirit cannot grown toward God. God only gives grace to the humble.”

Prayer: Dear Father, please deliver me from self conceits. Help me deal with the desire to puff and be extolled, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
