God’s “Let” Diary (Part 148) — Let Him That Thinketh He Standeth

Updated: Nov 28, 2020

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, November 28, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 10:6-13

Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV) — “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

The New Testament pictures the Christian life as a ground, a background or a foundation upon which life is built for the most part. It also pictures the Christian as a planting of the Lord, cultured naturally and spiritually to stand unshakable upon the foundation that Christ Himself laid. As such, the word ”stand" is often used to depict our continued upright position or situation upon that foundation and in keeping with the life, character and patterns agreeable or consistent with our profession of Christ, and life in union with Him. In corollary, to fall may also be described as any situation that makes a Christian to live or act in any manners inconsistent with the foundation of Christ.

The purpose for writing this admonition is basically because the apostle perceived that some Corinthian believers think that they have greater advantage over the Israelites under the Old Testament; and that if they lived in those days as the Jews, they would not have sinned like they did. So, in verses 5-11, he points out why most Jews, who were led out of the slavery of Egypt, did not make it to the Promised Land. Of course, he (Paul) sees life as a probation and wants his readers to live consciously of this fact. We must take heed that we all carry than Adamic nature and are liable to fall for different reasons. We must continue to work out what Christ works into us; and not take our idea of ”eternal security of souls” or ”being saved, always saved” for granted. We are not called or saved so that we can continue to sin. We must give careful thoughts to those lifestyles that cause us to slip off the foundation of Christ.

Quote for the Day: “We take so as not to yield to the subtilty of satanuc wiles. We already know who our enemy is: a tempter, a robber, a liar and a destroyer.”

Prayer: Father in Heaven, I ask that you would give me wisdom and discernment to recognize the schemes of the enemy.

Please help me to stay alert in this dark and slippery world, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
