God’s “Let” Diary (Part 149) — Let No Man Seek His Own

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, November 29, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 10:23-33

Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 10:24 (KJV) — “Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

It is so surprising how much we have become so selfish about gains, materials and possessions. Sometimes we can’t even tell when people are truly sincere or genuine in their intentions, or they only have vested interests. Once, a young fellow worker at an investment company was impressed and very appreciative at the interest his coworkers took in the news that his wife was going to have a baby. Every day one or more of them would drop around to his desk to inquire: “How’s your wife doing?” “How’s the antenatal going?” “How’s the baby and the mother? “Any news, young man?” “How many more days?” These love showers dazed him because he did not know that every man in the office had a bet upon when the baby would arrive. The interest in his affairs was really birthed by his coworkers selfish greedy desire to win the office bet.

Today’s meditation cautions us to desist from a selfish lifestyle that probably has become almost a societal norm. Indeed, today’s systems almost encourage men to take advantage of other; and maybe reward or praise those who do so. The gospel of Christ is about the One who emptied Himself so that others may be filled; who became poor so that we may be rich in God. Therefore, we, in being like Him must seek the wealth of others. This does not necessarily mean riches, but their spiritual advantages or good. From its root, the word used by the Apostle signifies commonwealth or prosperity in general. A believer in Christ who seeks his own, while excluding other's wealth is a selfish disciple, and is unlike Christ.

Quote for the Day: “Our choices must be those that eschew the danger of occasioning the weakening of the faith of others — Christians or nonChristians.”

Prayer: O Lord, You are our good Shepherd who leads us to follow Your footsteps that leads to the blessing, joy and interest of others. Help us to do the same, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
