God’s “Let” Diary (Part 150) — Let All Things Be Done Unto Edifying

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, November 30, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 14:23-40

Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 14:26 (KJV) — “How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.”

As believers in Christ, we are called to be one in spite of our different backgrounds. Our wide variety of living experiences and influences are not a curse. They are blessings Because though we are so diverse, we are strong together in our various calling. However, we must beware because the enemy seeks opportunities to use our diversity as an occasion for disunity and disorder among us. The apostle’s focus in today’s text is to help us maintain harmonious fellowship and the spirit of Christian orderliness. I like to share a story of three friends who slipped from concord into chaos. And it’s so easy for us to also do the same. The trio (a surgeon, an engineer, and a politician) argued on which of them had the best or oldest profession. Their story will teach two things: 1.) It is easy to compromise accord for chaos; and 2.) Christians must eschew anything that fails to edify.

So, the surgeon opined that “Eve was made from Adam’s rib by a surgical procedure, and so surgery dates back to the beginning. The engineer countered him by arguing that creating the world out of chaos was an engineering job. And at this, the politician laughed triumphantly, claiming that the chaos was a creation of politics. Perhaps this kind could have been the nature of Christian fellowship when we all cannot agree on order and decorum. Our gathering will then not be different from political parties that really know how to make things really chaotic. But in today’s passage, we are reminded that our gathering is at the place of His presence, God is always present with us, is not the author of confusion. Our fellowship must therefore be one that edifies others, one that makes the glory of God known on earth; and shines His light in/to the dark world.

Quote for the Day: “Impropriety and disorder in the Church is a mark of a corrupt, sensual, secularized and politicized religion. This may be anything else, but not Christianity.”

Prayer: Lord, we ask that everything in our lives and gathering which is misaligned with Your will, and is a source of confusion, shall be shifted into alignment, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
