Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, December 2, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 16:10-16

Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 16:14 (KJV) — “Let all your things be done with charity.

The Landon Parvin in Leaders’ Readers Digest of May 1996 recorded the story of a notorious miser who was called on by the chairman of his community charity to contribute toward a certain fund-raising. The telephone conversation went as follows: “Sir, our records show that despite your wealth, you’ve never once given to our drive.” The man replied, “Do your records show that I have an elderly mother who was left penniless when my father died? “Do your records show that I have a disabled brother who is unable to work? Do your records show I have a widowed sister with small children who can barely make ends meet?” “No, sir,” replied the embarrassed volunteer. “Our records don’t show those things.” “Well, so I guess your records won’t show that I don’t give to any of them, and so I’m wondering why I should give anything to you?”

The unfortunate story of above miserly man typifies a life devoid of love. Regrettably, many Christians live like that. It does not matter how blessed they are spiritually or physically, their hearts are never touched or motivated by love. Everything they do is oriented towards selfishness. In this epistle to the Corinthians, the theme of love is so prominent because it should spring from the very core of, according to this passage, everything we do. What this scripture requires of us is that, as a proof of our love to Christ, the whole of our conduct and behavior towards Him, in Christian service, to one another ought to be with motivated by love. And if indeed this is the case, all of us shall bear all things with/for one another, and all our corporate affairs — in ministering, church business meetings, and interpersonal relationships — should be done, not with strife or vain glory, but in peace, mutual affection, concern for the good of all, and for the glory of God.

Quote for the Day: “Love is, in the order of Christ, the ability to seek the of other even while they yet deny yours.”

Prayer: Dear Father, O please, breathe the freshness of Your Spirit upon me and let Him bring Your message of love alive within my heart, and cause it to flow through my live, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
