God’s “Let” Diary (Part 170) — Let Nothing be Done through Strife

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, December 22, 2020

Today’s Text: Philippians 2:1-13

Key Verses: Philippians 2:3 (KJV) — “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Another version of our key text says, "let nothing be done through faction or vain-glory." This is an indication that the reason the body of Christ grapple so much with strife within our ranks is due to our pursuit of vain glory. In keeping with the teaching of Jesus Christ, all New Testament writers are agreeable on the fact that genuine unity of spirit (or spirit of unity) is never consistent with party spirit and self exaltation. Wherever there is faction there is confusion; and the Spirit of God is neither the author of confusion; not does He dwell therein.

In this text, the apostle admonishes Philipian Christians that the only means by which we may be transported beyond the illegitimacy of discretion, which does no good but tears our cores of brotherhood apart, is to put away strife. The Old Testament preacher also declares how honorable it is for a man to cease from strife (Proverbs 20:3) So noble to the preacher that he would make it a matter of deep praying for help. He cried that the Lord would remove this vanity far from him. Indeed, when we all learn to do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but out of a godly disposition of humility, and place others before us; then the mind which was also in Christ Jesus shall also be found in us.

Quote for the Day: “God demonstrated his love so that we can live it out.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Father, teach us to live out our love for you, so hat through our fellowship together as your people, we shall proof that there is no distance in the spirit, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
