Today’s Text: Ruth 2:5-14
Key Verses: Ruth 2:7 (KJV): And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.”

The Bible is full of amazing stories of godly women who did great things and distinguished themselves for good works and industry. Serah was a fantastic homemaker; Deborah, a brave judge; Mary, a courageous mother; and Dorcas, a maker of purple, of gold, and a giver. These women have something in common with Ruth — they all have an uncommon living faith in Yahweh, the Holy God of Israel. They all refused to settle for pity-parties, but they lay godly examples of good works in righteousness for all women. Yes dear one, shake off your dusts and glean in grace from morning till evening. Don’t you trust yourself upon men, they may make you today and mock you tomorrow. Don’t complain that no one finds a service for you in the vineyard; beg yourself to glean. Don’t be pushed back waiting for opportunities to come; step out and secures a suitable field like Ruth.
You probably know that by right, Jewish widows lived on goodwill of the people; but Ruth dared to be different. She chose not to intrude herself in idleness, as indigent widow, or as imposter forcing her way. Instead, she modestly took leave to gleam with diligence. Ruth also shows the godly character of of constancy, consistency and perseverance. Not only was she willing to glean; but she stayed gleaning from morning till evening. Don’t be an idle believer: learn from Ruth. No matter your situation, things go well where there is such good-will. At a point Paul commands us to honor widows who are truly in need (1 Tim 5:3-16); at another, he enjoins them to make it their ambition to lead a quiet life; mind their business and work with their hands (1 Thess 4:11).
Quote for the Day: "Let me glean is the spirit of industry, the voice of courage, and the motion of diligence. Be it our daily bread or spiritual manner, we must never quit gleaning midday.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, give me a heart like Ruth. Fill me up with a burning passion for service, a consistent desire to suffer-long, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
