Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, January 19, 2021
Today’s Text: Hebrews 4:14-16
Key Verses: Hebrews 4:14 (KJV) — “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.”
When Larry King marked his 20th Live anniversary on CNN, the man who became famous interviewing others was being interviewed live. His interviewer asked him two direct and revealing questions, probing into his fear and faith. About what his greatest fear was, Larry immediately replied, “Death.” And then he was asked the follow up question on if he believed God!” To this, King’s response was most unfortunate. He said, “Not sure. I’m an agnostic.” Whereas, the interview occurred in a time in his career when he was at the very peak. He was famous and wealthy, but none of that mattered in the face of the reality or the fear of death. Regardless of a man's success or status, if he is uncertain about God,he will most assuredly be fearful of death.
However, those who know the Lord and have lively hope. They are have the greatest blessing of being under an the great Shepherd and High Priest of our souls. Not only has our fear of death dissolved by His priestly sacrifice; we are also brought into eternal life in and with Him. These Hebrew Christians were encouraged to hold fast this confession in Jesus Christ our perfect High Priest. We too have this admonition today to celebrate this our blessing and Christ’s priestly preeminence. So that whether we are as affluent and populous or we are as remote and obscure, this glorious profession should move us as sufficient motive to persevere in following Jesus Christ.
