Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, January 21, 2021
Today’s Text: Hebrews 6:1-3
Key Verses: Hebrews 6:1 (KJV) — “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.”
The author of Hebrews, in entirety, puts an
amazing manual in the hands of Christians. The epistle has laid foundation to all initial principles or elements of our faith. It spares nothing of all rudimentary doctrines or principles we are supposed to be acquainted with. However, because, water, land, rail or air, no traveler lingers at the station to make the flight: the author spurs us on to the need to advance. The elementary teachings are necessary because they put our feet on the right course and assure a right sail. However, to reach our journey's end, we must need to take off from the station and get past the foundation. As we grow in teachings we we must also grow in our spiritual convictions, conduct and maturity.
Today's admonition is an invitation to maturity. The apostle says it is high time the Hebrew believers translate all the teachings they have received into practice. And the same must be true of us also. Our growing faith must manifest itself in our way of life. Our daily life must reflect an ever-increasing conformity to God. Apostle Paul himself continued to strive to attain Christ’s mark of higher calling, we must pursue no less commitment to perfection. We have already received grace to access Christ's finished or perfected works. We have already received all the teachings pertaining to godliness. Therefore, we are all left with no choice but to go on and work out what God already works into us. The Christian faith is a practical life. We are to press onwards daily unto perfection. The words “let us” carry both a command and an urgency with it. It also carries inclusion: the word is “let us” — everyone of us must aspire to press on to maturity in our knowledge of Christ.
Quote for the Day: ”The more we grow higher and deeper in our love for Jesus Christ, the clearer we apprehend and comprehend His truth.” (Simon Olatunji)
