God’s “Let” Diary (Part 194) — Let Us Go Forth

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, January 25, 2021

Today’s Text: Hebrews 13:1-3

Key Verses: Hebrews 13:13 (KJV) — “Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

The writer of Hebrew having fully expressed the superiority of Christ’s atonement sets to teach every believing reader some spiritual lessons from some resemblance between our Lord and the animals burnt on the day of atonement. He pointed out how both the animals and the Lord did not die a natural death. The Lord also suffered and His precious blood of our Lord was poured forth before the people. Jesus also suffered in the same open place in which the animals were killed; slain in the camp, and burned outside the camp: the same way as Jesus suffered without the camp. And lastly, just as the blood of the animals were shed that it might be taken "into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin," as a propitiation for sin, and their bodies were burned as a testimony of the Divine indignation against sin; our Lord suffered both as the sufficient propitiation as well as officiated the highest priestly office for our sake so that we all may receive forgiveness of sin.

In response to this all surprising and surpassing propitiation wrought without merit; the apostle spurs us to braze for an appropriation. Jesus made a public spectacle of sin outside the camp; His redeemed people must also live an open life in identification with him. The author of this all-time admonition calls with a military sense of urgency. The word “let us go forth” was employed both to impress the urgent nature of the call as well as to express its general nature. It could have been “you must therefore go forth;” but no, it is a command to all that name the name of Christ. Let us go forth to show Christlike examples of love and sacrifice to a world of broken dreams and hates. Let us go forth to put out of our lives any shade of secrecy and odious hypocrisy that reproach the work and name of Jesus. Let us go forth to heal the wounded; love the unlovable; and forgive those who sin against us. Let us go forth to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Let us go forth out of the four walls of the church to shine the light of the gospel of God’s glorious kingdom to places of humanity to the glory of God.

Quote for the Day: ”What better human response could we ever make to Christ’s work of propitiation than appropriation?!” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, help us to be shining light, and living testimony to the saving grace of our Lord on earth, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
