God’s “Let” Diary (Part 196) — Let Us not Love in Word

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, January 28, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 John 3:13-24

Key Verses: 1 John 3:18 (KJV) — “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”

The Life of a believer is expected to be the extension or demonstration of the life of Christ. Our actions must approve the sincerity of our professions. As Christians, we are not supposed to say something while we mean another. Our yea must be yea, and nay must be nay. We serve the God who loves the whole world by giving His only begotten Son. We also must be able to show people that we sincerely love them. We do not merely confess that we love; but we demonstrate our love by being compassionate, kind, bountiful, and gracious to others.

We have been called into a walk in the foot steps of Jesus. We are supposed to live out an operative love: one which puts true faith into action. We are light of the world and salt of the earth. Anywhere we stand people must see more than a mere profession: We do not have to say that we love each other. People would see it. Indeed, hateful men who do not respect our spiritual conviction should watch our lives and be able to see that we love in deed and in truth. This scripture is in the context of loving others in deeds; not just loving God. It is easy for us to claim we love God; but the evidence that we do love God is in the fact of our love for other men.
