God’s “Let” Diary (Part 25) — Let Your Hand be with Me

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, July 5, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9,10

Key Verses: 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV): “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

The word of the Lord has many examples of people whose life or in certain events that teach us how to depend on God and call upon Him. The account of today’s text is one of them. Apart from Jabez’s prayer that strikes a chord and made the difference, the totality of 1 Chronicles 4 would have been so boring and formless. This is not an accident at all: it depicts what our story and life ordinarily is if it is devoid of the help of God. God knows we need Him to be our best; and Hd is always willing to help us if and when we cry to Him.

In Isaiah 1:18, God invites us to bring out petitions before Him; and in the testimony of David, we can be sure that “those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces” (Psalm 34:5). The echo of the thoughts in these scriptures and in the prayer of Jabez is that Divine glory lights up the face of those who in trouble seek God. Jabez reminds us that it’s possible to be a godly man and have a painful life; but it’s not possible to cry to a loving God and not have a transformed story. When you are in desperation, learn from Jabez. Crave nothing else but God’s help. That’s the way to attract blessing “indeed” from God. Jabez took a different position of prayer before God. He did not pray like Jacob who said: if thine hand will be with me (Gen 28:22); but your hand be with me. We must always approach God with courage and faith. And the result is clear. He was more honorable than his brethren.

Quote for the Day: "Prayer is not and should not just be dependence on God; but it is must always be an acknowledgement of Him.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: O God, please bless me indeed and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain., in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
