God’s “Let” Diary (Part 26) — Let Your Hand be with Me

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, July 6, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9,10

Key Verses: 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV): “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

Science teaches that there’s the constructive and destructive dynamics of energy. Humans possess these dynamic forces trapped within the fiber of their hearts. Whichever outputs from a man is determined by the spirit (God’s or Satan’s) operating or driving the energy in him. However, while the devil is unable to channel construction at all — he destroys only; God influences us in the destruction of satanic holds and negative influences. He also causes construction of every good thing that is consistent with His nature and purpose. “The thief comes not but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I am come that they might have life, and might have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

Before us today is Asa, the third king of the Southern Kingdom (Judah) who removed the high places set apart for idolatrous worship. He destroyed the altars of false gods, and cut down the groves of sacrilege in Judah. Having taken away the means of indulging in their evil, Asa did not spare the perpetrators — he rebuked and punished them for causing stumbling blocks among the people. Perhaps, we need God’s Asa’s today, who would set stand tall for God. We need people who will live out the life of Christ and pursue personal and national righteousness. We need men with the courage to tear down foundations of evil.

Asa teaches us that we must dare to go all the way. It is not enough to tear down forces and faces of evil wherever found; but we must “let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers.” God’s word tells us that it is righteousness that exalts [builds, brings honor to, and lifts up] a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34 ). Therefore, by “let us build these cities,” God is calling on us, in every quarter and realm of influence, to be His voice of righteousness so that evil will soon be pulled down in our cities. He wants us to firmly discountenance and condemn hypocrisy so that deceit and corruption with fade away. It is the duty of God’s people to build the culture of godliness and expel moral decadence from our cities. It is our challenge to build godly homes from where godly people go to all the social, private and public places, living out the foundation of spiritual integrity.

Quote for the Day: "Ideological pursuit of a better world has failed — woefully so. It is high time our world return to the spiritual transformation that comes through Jesus Christ alone.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, like Reinhold Niebuhr prayed, I also pray that you will “grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference,” in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
