Today’s Text: Job 27:1-10
Key Verses: Job 27:6 (ESV): “I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.”
Good Sunday morning and welcome to episode 32 of our meditation on the word “Let” in the Bible.
Having been besotted by Satan, with God’s permission, Job remained one of the most upright figures presented throughout Old Testament literatures. He was stricken by disasters in which many people would have easily reviled God. Perhaps, the worse of trials for any man is when those closest to us, instead of strengthening our trust in God — by reminding us of His love and reassuring us of lively hope in him — are those conspiring to destroy what is left of our faith. When Job’s wife was moved by the enormity of his tribulations, she counseled him to curse God and die. His presumptuous concerned friends also subjected him to a prolonged vexation through endless speeches. But through and despite all, Job resorted to quietly wait on God in search for answers.
After a prolonged quiet reflections, it was time for Job to express his meditation. A meditated spirit is a convinced heart. While his friends were hasty time speak, Job must be reflecting on his standing with God and comes up with a conviction that there’s no need for regrets. No need to back out from the way. Therefore, he expresses confidence both in his integrity and in the integrity and the goodness of his God. He would rather hope in God though He slays him (13:15); and wait for his renewal to come even if it takes all the days of his hard service (14:14). Job gives witness to how God’s people should be when knocked down or in lockdown situations as we. It’s so hard to maintain personal righteousness when things are not the way we want them to be.
During our present lockdown situation, many have let go of their right standing with God. But from Job, we learn how a God’s people must perceive their moments. We learn how rewarding it is to speak when it is auspicious and be quiet when it is not. It is righteousness to maintain indelible testimony in spite of hardships. Of course, we are not passing through the best of times; but Job was a man of like passion as we. We too can be confident to bear witness of our faith, and of the faithful love of God if (and when) we maintain a righteous stand before the Lord, and before the watching generation. Declare truth always wherever lacking, and reveal falsehood always wherever hidden. In this way, we, like Job, can be confident that our hearts do not reproach us because we hold fast our integrity.
Quote for the Day: "Evil finds easy path into the heart of an unmeditated man; but
righteousness thrives in devout souls.“ (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, I desire a lifestyle that reflects righteousness and grace; a life that bears testimony to Christ’s everyday, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
