God’s “Let” Diary (Part 33) — Let My Words and Thoughts Please You

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, July 13, 2020

Today’s Text: Psalm 19:8-14

Key Verses: Psalm 19:14 (ESV): “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”

Have you ever asked yourself if we can ever find any other source of strength greater than praying to the Lord God of heaven? — Especially when the prayer is from such a heart desirous of righteousness as the one found in today’s text. What we have in our key verse today is a very good example of an inwrought prayer pumped by the energy of genuine godly spirit. It is a type that Apostle James calls effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man which, he says avails much.

The will of God must always be paramount and central to our petition. This is true of the pattern of prayer that our Lord taught us. It is also true to David’s prayer before us today. It is very important to understand that a prayer is not perfect except the whole life of the pray-er is lived in perfect accord with his prayer. Why do we pray? Is it not because we are unable to please God and lead a good life except God helps us? David knows this truth. He also knows that leading a good life begins from our words, and our words begin from our thoughts. So he sought God’s help on his thoughts and words.

By his example, David teaches us the relationship between our meditation and our words. We learn how a man of devotion must order his thoughts by prayer. This is important because whatever we say have two separate existence — they are first in thoughts before coming into existence as speeches. Our meditations are actually unuttered words. Each of us thinks in words. That’s why it is important to commit our unuttered words (meditation) to God in prayer. Your meditation have more powerful affect your actions; and your speeches are a reflection of your thoughts. When we pray, we move the hand that moves the world. Therefore, it will be awesome if we order our inner thoughts and words right from the throne of grace. The more we let our prayer channel our meditation and words, the more the spring of our actions are cultured by what pleases God. The more we trust God to refine our words the more we are able to define our deepest, truest and surest thoughts of God.

Quote for the Day: "A prayer is not perfect except the whole life of the pray-er is lived in perfect accord with his prayer.“ (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight , in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
