Today’s Text: Psalm 119:73-80
Key Verses: Psalm 119:78 (KJV): “Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause:
But I will meditate in thy precepts.”

Good Saturday morning and happy weekend, dear friend. Let us meditate today on whatever happens to a proud heart. There is no countenance at all for pride and arrogance anywhere in the word of God. Pride is a feeling, deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from unrestrained self estimation and ego. — The only disease that makes everyone else sick except the one who actually has it. Charles Spurgeons warns us to “be not proud of race, face, place, or grace." Beside the fact that all God’s chosen people are mostly “who am I,” “woe is me,” “I can’t speak,” “I’m but a child,” and “depart from me, a sinner” kind of people; the life of Christ, our savior is an indictment to the proud. In the epistle written by James — the brother of our Lord, who though came from the same womb with Jesus, and had overseen the council of the church in Jerusalem, would not be boastful about these; but commended himself as a servant of Christ — it is stated that God, gives more grace to all who shun the temper of pride, and sincerely and earnestly humble themselves.
By today’s text, we see that there’s no allowance for pride in both Testaments (Old and New). David teaches us that pride is a shameful demeanor before God and man. Pride is considered a reproach not just because it makes you not humbled before your maker; but also because it makes you think highly of yourself, and put confidence in your fleshly wisdom, power, holiness, or achievements. It is a shame because God opposes you if you’re proud. This means that God sets himself in battle array against the proud. It means He rejects them. James says God opposes the proud. This means He denies them access to Himself, or communion with Him. Or, that He thwarts their undertakings, and renders their schemes abortive. Because of pride, an angel of the Lord caused Herod to be consumed by worms (Acts 12:18-25). Is there a more sorry way to be ashamed than to plan it all, and God thwarts it all?! David admonishes that all God’s people, who have a due regard for His testimonies, be convinced of this, and turn their hearts from pride. Paul admonishes that we should “let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” (Philippians 2:5-7)
Quote for the Day: "Pride is a reproach not just because it makes you not humbled before your maker; but also because it makes you think highly of yourself, and put confidence in your fleshly wisdom.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You who, though, You are God walked the earth with such humility that hid Your Majesty; such meekness that confused the arrogant and made them despise You. You, whose nobility never despised the destitute — please teach me to subject my human nature to the model of Your eminence. I pray in Your precious name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
