Today’s Text: Proverbs 4:1-13
Key Verses: Proverbs 4:4 (KJV): “He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.”

The words for our meditation today are words of David which he spoke to his son Solomon. However, no one needs to look too deep before you see that it is deeper than just the words of a king to his prince. It is indeed one of those scriptures that give accent to the priestly and prophetic ministries of David. Having been instructed by either his own father and mother or by the King of kings Himself, David is now instructing his own son Solomon with such unquestionable authority and efficacy: To live is to keep divine counsel; to do otherwise is death!
This morning, we all have before us a promise in the form of a command from our Heavenly Father — the way to live is “retain my words” and “keep my commandments” in your heart. To retain God’s words is a metaphor that describes how we are to “take hold of," "hold fast" and "give heed” to all divine instructions so that, by them, we may live. “For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh” (v. 22). In all generations, man’s sure means of spiritual life is the word of God — not by bread, not by wealth, and not by strength. By what our Lord said in John 6:63, “the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life,” we can be sure that the spirit that quickens man does not belong to anything of the flesh. No, but what profits us and gives us life is when we heed the word of God.
Quote for the Day: "Get hold of God’s word, hold fast to it, and don’t let it go — and you shall find abundant life.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Loving God, I desire Your counsel in my life. Please give me such confidence in Your word, that even in my deepest doubts, I may always put my whole trust in You, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
