Today’s Text: Exodus 4:18-31
Key Verse: Exodus 4:23 (ESV): “And I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’ ”

The shadows of hate, hostility, and slavery have loomed over humanity for generations. Man has continued to take advantage of man, and people oppress people. That was the situation the Jews found themselves in while in Egypt under Pharaoh Seti I, “The son of Ra." But as we meditate on today’s diary of scriptural “let,” looking at “let my son go so that he may serve me,” we are faced with one of the most pertinent issues today — when hostility grows between races, nations, religions and even Christian denominations.
First, we must observe that the people they rejected and used as slaves; the Lord God, their maker and redeemer, the Holy One of Isreal, the true and righteous judge, called them sons. Pharaoh Seti was "son of Ra” his official title meaning "own son," but the Jews were God’s sons. In 1John 3:1, we are called upon to see (behold) such manner of love as the father has for us by which we are to be called sons of God. If we are all sons of God, why give room for racial hostility? Well, we must learn that God always takes side with the despised and oppressed people because He hates oppression, and detests discrimination — so, we too must.
Furthermore, we must observe that people shall love and serve God more, or better if we let them out of our hooks of hate and hostility. And of course, the text also speaks to those who are oppressed not to avenge themselves of the wrongs. Leave vengeance to God. It is hotter coals of fire on your enemies when you return good for their evil; especially when God fights your battles. Can you imagine God saying to "son of Ra” (own son), the oppressor of Israel: “If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your own first son?”
Quote for the Day: "The burden of hate and racism is something deeper than moral; it is spiritual. For anyone who lets such passions rise puts himself in enmity with God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, help me to love those you love and all those who despise-fully use me, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
