God’s “Let” Diary (Part 50) — Let Your Eyes Observe My Ways

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, July 30, 2020

Today’s Text: Proverbs 23:26-28

Key Verses: Proverbs 23:26: “My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

We give so little and make so much noise about it. Why? Our hearts actually treasure possessions more. And wherever our treasures are, that’s also where our hearts go; and wherever our hearts go, there our eyes also follow. Heart, head, hand and eyes are connected in an inescapable purpose. When heart nurtures evil, head thinks it, eyes go there, and hands execute it. That is why the wise preacher insists that the one gift worthy of acceptance which man can offer to God, which God will accept unequivocally is the heart. Unfortunately we can’t bear or dare to give it. O no, that an offering we almost always believe is too much and tend to keep back. That is why we substitute it for items and treasures, alms and prayers, religious observances and momentary obedience.

However “my son, give me thine heart” is the divine requirement or requisition. Nothing more or less. That heart that you so much esteem — your very seat of affections: give it to Him — and materials shall become immaterial for your eyes to follow. Rather, it (your eyes) shall observe His ways. The message of this text is clear: God is saying to all His true children that no matter what we have given, are giving, or will give, if we do not first give our hearts to God, none can actually find acceptance before Him. Three times, Jesus asked "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?" Like Peter, should we be hurt because of this matter before us, or get down on our knees for help? Until our hearts belongs to Him, our love and thoughts cannot dwell upon Him; and neither would our eyes observe His ways. The Man who gives God his heart is the broken man, whose affections are melted by Him, and whose intentions are based upon His words. Are you that man, or we should look for another?!

Quote for the Day: "The Man who gives God his heart is the broken man, whose affections are melted by Him, and whose intentions are based upon His words” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord God of Heaven and earth, I give You my whole heart and keep nothing back of it. Help me to love, trust and follow Your words all the days of my life, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
