Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, August 7, 2020
Today’s Text: Isaiah 22:1-14
Key Verses: Isaiah 22:13 (KJV) — “And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.”

We have been blessed with so much joy and gladness of living that we often tend to forget the essence, purpose and the giver of life. This has been the flaw of generations of men even back before the days of Christ. The prophet Isaiah saw this coming, and cautions us ahead as one danger to avoid. It all started in Athens, a colony of Ancient Greece, during the days of Pericles. Epicureanism was the order of the day and people literally adore recklessness and sensuality as the highest good. Epicurus advocated and taught people that pleasure arising from needless fear of death and of the gods was man’s most important pursuit.
Well, wether you belong to the days of Isaiah or Epicurus or this postmodern age, a “eat and drink and die tomorrow” attitude is not acceptable Christian lifestyle at any age. It is called lasciviousness. A believer must not be inclined to lustful; wanton, lewd, boy or girl chasing, money chasing or lustful lifestyle. Our actions, spoken words, or unspoken thought must not suggest that we disrespect our maker in the name of any rights or fleshly passions. When Nineveh fell guilty of these sins, God sent Jonah to demand a lamentation, not jubilation for their sins: otherwise a judgment will be brought upon their land. In the same way, He sent Isaiah; and He is also sending the same message to us so that we may repent from our pleasure seeking lifestyle. Modern preachers may have failed to tell us; but Isaiah stands with Paul’s theology and philosophy in calling us to repentance. It is time to shun “let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die” philosophy which is against God’s counsel. We must embrace Paul’s cautions: “whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Quote for the Day: "Modern preachers may have failed to realize how lost into epicurean theology and philosophy they are.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, in anything that I do: please let my life praise You, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
