Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, August 9, 2020
Today’s Text: Isaiah 45:1-8
Key Verses: Isaiah 45:8 (KJV) — “Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.”

Righteousness is the attribute of moral purity imputed to us, Christians, by God through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. He has also commanded us to walk in it. The word of God tells us that apart from Christ, not one of us can be righteous before God; for He alone is truly righteous, no human goodness or works of righteousness can ever make us righteous in the eyes of the Lord. Isaiah once drew the prophetic curtain and saw through the ages that “all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away” (Isaiah 64:6) He did even exonerate him. No, no man could. He saw the holiness of God and confessed, "Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts” (Isaiah 6:5)
Upon this background, the prophet joins all the clouds of prophetic witnesses calling all the willing souls from under the skies and all the earth to embrace the saving grace by which we are counted righteous in the eyes of God. What Isaiah saw in part has been completed through the New Testament revelation: that our righteousness comes from God on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ did on the cross (Phil 3:9). That’s why it such a blessing to respond to this call by faith. If you do, though you are actually worthy of damnation before God, never again shall you be damned; but shall be justified and made righteous by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. You shall also be qualified to spend eternity in the presence of the holy, pure, loving, kind, gentle, and righteous God. Let the vision os Isaiah materialize in your life today: let God’s righteousness spring up in you.
Quote for the Day: "Once a man belongs wholly to Christ, there is a breaking fort of Christ’s righteousness upon him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Righteous God, I want to be more like You so help me to actively pursue Your righteousness and love, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
