God’s “Let” Diary (Part 6) — Let the Ashes towards Heaven!

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, June 13, 2020

Today’s Text: Exodus 9:8-13

Key Verse: Exodus 9:8 (NKJV): “So the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Take for yourselves handfuls of ashes from a furnace, and let Moses scatter it toward the heavens in the sight of Pharaoh.”

Today’s meditation blesses us with a glimpse and awe of divine creativity in dealing with His people and those who love them — even in His chastisement of those who hate them. During this reported history, Pharaoh Ramsey had inherited the culture of unfair treatment of the Jews from Seti I. He maintained their servitude as brickmasons and kept their abode, Goshen, as a horrific brick-field In which the Jews were forced to free brick works, and to dry the molded pbricks in the furnace.

The oppression was much; plus the Jews were punished by burning them alive in brick-furnace with their ashes tossed up in the air as an offering to one of Egypt’s deities called Typhon. This background helps us see what God was doing when He said, “toss the ashes towards heaven. In a way, He is teaching us: 1.) To always give up our fight to Him. 2.) Sufficient is divine wisdom in delivering justice. 3.) God does not need to measure ashes for ashes. Yes, the enemy may shovel them up; but a handful of ashes is what God needs. 4.) He uses the Egyptians’ wrongdoing as a whip to scourged them, using the burnt flesh, and blood of the people already mingled with ashes in the bricks-kilns to cause a plague. And 5.), God demonstrates His supremacy over other deities not just of Egypt, but all.

Quote for the Day: "Part of God’s reason for taking vengeance upon Himself is so that His people don’t have to bear the burden of bitterness and resentment.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask you to help me against satanic schemes to clutter my mind and instill thoughts of anger and hate within me, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
