God’s “Let” Diary (Part 62) — Let Us Trust in the Name of the Lord

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Today’s Text: Isaiah 50:4-11

Key Verses: Isaiah 50:10 (KJV) — “Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.”

Who among us have no ups and down, and have never for once doubted the pathway of faith? I would think there would be none. We all have our different valleys of different shadows to walk in. Sometimes the shadows is of fear of the unknown, or of losses, pandemic and/or death. As real people, believers are not immune to the real challenges of life. Darkness tries to settle upon our thoughts too as it does in hearts of others. Isaiah represents an ideal servant of God, yet he could identify with all of us in our struggles for meaning. The words of this texts grow out of his own experience and personal struggles. Job 5:7 reveals that all mortals, as a result of the Fall, are commonly, naturally and generally exposed to various troubles that befall all as the sparks of fire bubble up unexpectedly.

So, you are not alone if you ever felt as if the light you seek or have been promised for a time have failed you. Great prophets of God have been there. Isaiah was there. David once felt forsaken. In the story of Ajax, when he was resisting Hector's attack under cover of a miraculous darkness believed to be sent by Zeus, he uttered the unforgettably heroic prayer, “Restore the brightness of day, grant sight to our eyes, and slay us at least in the light, since your pleasure, it seems, is to slay us.” If like me, you too ever felt like this; remember the King of glory on the cross, in the days of His flesh, too,, cried “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” At the end Isaiah has such a word of consolation that, in spite of all our darkness and doubts, there is no single one among them that fear the LORD, that obey His voice that ever walk in darkness, and have no light. Regardless of our situations, this truth must inspire us to trust in the name of the Lord. It will also help us to always learn from the trustful cry of the Savior, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit” (Luke 23:46)

Quote for the Day: "All mortals, as a result of the Fall, are commonly, naturally and generally exposed to various troubles.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, You are my hiding place; please protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Be my hope and my strength always, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
