God’s “Let” Diary (Part 66 ) — Let No Man Glory

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday,, August 17, 2020

Today’s Text: Jeremiah 9:22-24

Key Verses: Jeremiah 9:23 (KJV) — “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches.

Have you ever prided yourself in your plans, strategies and/or resources so much that you thought the whole world would cringe at your beck and call only to find everything in an incredible twist?Today’s text cautions us to beware of trusting in our wisdom, strength and riches. This message came when the Jews gloried and prided themselves in their political and economic prosperity. They enjoyed alliances with other superpowers of the then known world, appeared to be in control, and remained valuable and untouchable among nations. But instead of these things to spur them to love the Lord, they bring them false confidence and led them to start glorying in their wisdom, power and prosperity. But they got into political trouble when Egypt gained power, and overran Assyria which was in alliance with them. Josiah was slain in that alliance war at Megiddo, and Israel became weakened without a king, and compelled into loyalty to Egypt.

In this scripture, the Lord is pointing us to a major flaw in our generation. We glory in our strength, prosperity and wisdom, and we despise God’s help a lot. We are like en of Judah, who because of their large army, their impregnable fortress, and the wealth of their nation, forget to reference God. Unfortunately, none of those could avail when they had provoked their Helper to jealousy, and their enemies rose against them to utterly overthrow them. Like them, we too have been deceived by our long continuance of peace and our nation’s accumulation of vast wealths so much that those wealth have become our wee. Our false confidence has made us to forsake our profession of faith, and all its ancient pathways. Yes, we go to church but our worships point to self, and so do our preachings and testimonies. Isn’t it high time we realize that God delights in His creatures acknowledging of Him and giving Him the glory and honor due His name? Isn’t it high time we yield Jeremiah’s “thus saith the LORD”and it will preserve us from Divine during this last days?

Quote for the Day: "Our false confidence has made us to forsake our profession of faith, and all its ancient pathways.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please turn us back to the Old Paths; show us the Good Way, and provoke us to walk therein, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
