Today’s Text: Ezekiel 39:1-21
Key Verses: Ezekiel 39:7 (KJV) — “So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.”

You probably have heard or read of the great pre-Reformation Bohemian reformer, John Hus; or at least you have felt the impact of his ministry. The kings of Italy and Bohemia both promised him safety in a document signed by King Charles I which read, "Upon the word of a king you shall not suffer in life, honour, or fortune." But both monarchs broke their promises, leading to Hus's martyrdom in 1415. In all of times and ages, man’s reputation remains profaned and untrustworthy. But God is not a man: He cares about His name. He said I am not a man that I should lie (Numbers 23:19). When He promised Israel's deliverance, and the defeat and humiliation of their foes, in spite of the Hebrews disobedience, God still made His promises good because of His name.
Our text today should strengthen our faith in the unalloyed faithfulness and providential government of God. When everything else fails, including we ourselves, God continues to uphold the integrity of His Name, Jehovah, the self-existing God. Our concern therefore is not on wether God’s character and integrity as revealed in His name and person may be trusted or not; but on our handling of the dignity and honor that comes with the name. By what God did against Gog in His righteous anger: how He makes all weapons formed against Zion to fail and judged him, and by the riches of His mercy and grace to Israel as His people; He has proven the holiness of His name. Now, with righteous jealousy, He calls on us not to allow that name to be brought anymore into profanity by our life or actions. There are several ways by which we often pollute God’s holy name. One is when we sin and bring down judgments on us. Another is when God’s people (or the church) are subjected to heathen influences and control. In both cases, the name of God is polluted because we provoke God’s judgement and cause heathen nations to think that God was unable or unwilling to save His people. Let us therefore sanctify the “Holy One of Israel” as His ambassadors among nations by upholding His holiness and reflecting the same. Let us walk in His light and live as children of light. Let all men be liar, but let them know, by our lives, that we serve a holy and just God. It is high time we cease to blush in shame of sin and brush the same on the integrity of God.
Quote for the Day: "When everything else fails, including we ourselves, God continues to uphold the integrity of His Name, Jehovah, the self-existing God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me so that my life will praise You rather than profane You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
