Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, August 30, 2020

Today’s Text: Hosea 4:15-19

Key Verses: Hosea 4:15 (KJV) — “Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.

Dare to be different or do not be like them is the simplified way of sharing the burden of Hosea here. The oracle before him is to caution Judah of Israel’s prodigality and peril. The leaders of the people had caused them to err and those who are led of them are already in danger of destruction. Kings Ahaziah, Joram, and Ahaz had led men and women of the northern kingdom into apostasy and whoredom. If care is not taken Judah may be enticed and lured. But since God did not want that to happen, Hosea was burdened to exhorted his people of the southern kingdom not to participate in the idolatries of Gilgal or in the calves of Bethel.

There are many of the household of faith today who are thought of as leaders and carriers of grace; but who have denied the faith and whored after erroneous spirits of the age; and the voices of Hosea is now reaching across the continent to you who has ears and can hear what the spirit now says to the church: “let not Judah offend!” You who are the Judah’s of God should not follow Demas in his love of this world. You must keep yourself pure. You must never join yourself with the errors of Gilgal or adulterate your profession of faith. If you will be hot be hot, or if cold be cold; but know that the lukewarm will the Lord spit out of His mouth (Revelation 3:16).

I know you live in an hyper permissive generation, but you who name the name of the Lord, retain true worship, and keep His ordinances must be careful not to partake in the sins of others. Guard your heart with all diligence so that you are not led away by the bad example of your brethren. In God’s commonwealth, majority may be wrong: and so are the ten tribes; and so often are the multitudes. So never follow multitude to do wrong. Whatever lifestyle or worship style that appears like mingling pagan lifestyle with our worship of God must not be abhorred. Let others preach the gospel of convenience; you must not do it. Let them meddle with accursed things, but you must not offend. Keep your garment white.

Quote for the Day: "The New Testament puts it straight: Christians are called to be transformed, and not to be conformed.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Holy Father, I pray that You will transform my mind, and move me to do Your will. Change my ways so I can do Your will and influence others also to do the same, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
