God has graciously given us another beautiful month according to His enduring mercy. We must cherish every opportunity as a blessing and every blessing as a challenge to respond more adequately to God. Each new month presents us a new opportunity to reflect on how we have lived in the past months. The main point of today’s text is reflection. The prophet pondered, and calls on Israel to do the same, on how Jehovah the Lord God of their fathers had become unknown among them (Hosea 4:1); and especially on why they must return to God, to their knowledge of Him and unto a continual growth in that knowledge.

But how shall we return except we first have a sense of departure? We must first come to a genuine realization of the distance or gap between us and God. The need to return must correspond with our sense of loss. It is only based on such genuine awareness that the Holy Spirit brings us to the point of spiritual reproof for our loss. It takes a penitent heart to quit murmuring, give up rebellious acts, submit to Divine chastisements, and humbly return to God. Like the prodigal son, we are hereby called to a thorough self awareness and awakening of our lost condition. We must quit being contented with unhelpful pursuits, rise up from the sloth, and retrace our ways back to the Lord. And the promise is clear if we do: the mercy of God is ever awaiting us so that though our wounds appear so severe, there’s always the hope of recovery, pardon and healing.

Quote for the Day: "True penitent brings us not only to an awareness of departure from God’s will, but to an urgent sense of return to Him.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, fill me up with a new thirst for Your word this new month, and cause my heart to desire You anew, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

I wish you a happy new month with all my love and prayers,
