Today’s Text: Joel 3:1-17
Key Verses: Joel 3:9, 10 (KJV) — “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.”
If there are any days of battle between good and evil; I believe it is now. More than that of Joel, ours is the very age truly caught up in the precipice of this prophecy. Wether we will fall from the cliffs or claim our height depends on what we do with the call of Joel. Because, the prophet was not only declaring something that already took place shortly afterwards, he was foretelling crucial future events that concern the church. He may have seen through a sharp spiritual antenna how the church will face battles of morality within and without; and probably how the anger of the sons of Hagar will boil against the church with sharp swords and sieges of terrorism. And he probably saw our compromise of the truth as a battle plan of the enemy.
Therefore, the burden is upon the prophet to proclaim a battle for morality and faith. However, how shall Judah fight a just battle for truth and righteousness with all its own issues in the days of this prophecy? How shall the church today light it’s world if and when it is not free from internal darkness. That is why Judah’s first call, and ours is a solemn return and repentance before the Lord. It is after this that we shall be in readiness to battle all the hates, injustice, terrorism, and moral recklessness of our day. The emergency of the battle is declared by the trumpet call. The necessity of it calls for an involvement of all. No one must excuse him or herself on any basis of lack or weakness. We are all God’s mighty men. A small church must rouse itself just as the bigger ones; a pastor on a lonely mountain like the tele-evangelists. No one is permitted to back out — even if you perceive weakness; the days of battles are here, and you must be strong.
Quote for the Day: "The true contexts of “let the weak say, I am strong” are: first, no one is permitted to claim weakness in the day of battle. Second, the vastness of the battlefield and the whiteness of the harvest field call for the participation of all.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, strengthen your church to arise from slumber, wake up to its call and shine its light to its world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
I wish you a happy new month with all my love and prayers,
