God’s “Let” Diary (Part 84) — Let Judgement Run

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, September 6, 2020

Today’s Text: Amos 5:21-24

Key Verses: Amos 5:24 (KJV) — “But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.”

To a morally blind world where justice and righteousness are underrated and overlooked, God sends a prophet. He (God) sees how those who lead the people and those who are led of them are held sway by rebellious spirit. He sees how injustice takes its very root in the hearts of all. A call is therefore made to all men to return and embrace what God loves and hate what He hates. We must love righteousness and pursue justice: that is the word rendered judgement. We must return to God, the source of these things. It is only in/through Him that these virtues are found. We know that fountains spring from earth upward; but not those of values and virtues. Those who seek justice and righteousness must understand that they are not to be found in the culture and system of earth. The human society sets cumbersome legal devices to enforce virtues; but God is the only source of all good.

That is why we are enjoined today to let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. We are not looking up hills, no. Our help does not come from the hills. The source of help is the Lord who made heaven and earth. We must allow His system of righteousness. We must embrace His eternal constitution, which are already laid out by His word. We must return to His word, respond to them and by so doing we are letting right living and just dealings run down like waters. It will run down and run over all our systems — moral, social, public, and private. It will reform our acceptance of one another. It will rebuke our hate and renew right spirit within us. If each man lets his sense of justice and righteousness be something that runs down from God, we shall all soon experience an unstoppable current of revival which no corrupt person, system or leader can overlook or sabotage.

Quote for the Day: "Justice and righteousness are not from religious or governmental efforts; they come without efforts when we let God have His way.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are in our knees on behalf of our homes, churches and society. We need all that You have to offer. We need the order You bring, the justice You establish and the holiness of Your character. Let these run down over us like streams, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

I wish you a happy new month with all my love and prayers,
