Today’s Text: Matthew 7: 1-5
Key Verses: Matthew 7:4 (KJV) — “Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?”

Reproofs are precious and comely among brethren and kindreds. Correcting one another and pointing out issues needing improvement is one of our responsibilities to one another. It has always been the way by which godly men improve and edify one another. It is also the way to leave those who err without excuses. No one should ever berate or reject reproof. The intention of Christ in the discourse of today’s text is not to undermine the place of fraternal reproof, and neither did He. No. But He understands that we are mostly and/or naturally so eager to want to set others right whereas so reluctant or complacent to pay attention to self. So He needs to help us. He knows what is in us: how our competitive spirit and avarice make us turn piercing searchlights on others to discern and discover the minutest motes in their eyes while we ignore the logs in ours.
He (our Lord and Savior) does not want us to be physicians who cannot heal ourselves. For if we are blind to our own faults, how can we have the right sight of others’?! Is a blind qualified to be a healer or leader of another blind? Among others, Jesus wants us to be careful not to be like a road sign who guides the way but never make it through. Another context in which Jesus sounds this warning is so that the reproof makers may be weary of any shade of interest in depreciating the character of others. Or so that you may not leave yourself behind at the junction of the same errors which you seek to correct others. The Corinthian believers needs to learn this so that Apostle Paul admonishes them to be careful “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!” (1 Corinthians 10:12).
Quote for the Day: "The best face and definition of hypocrisy is if and when a person pretends zeal for the piety another while s/he demonstrates none for self.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, please help me to be a living example of Your righteousness: a living light that shows Your way and walk in it, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
