God's Promise of an Eternal Abode

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 25, 2024

Today’s Text: Psalm 23:1 - 6

Key Verse: Psalm 23:6 (ESV): "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

Many believers might not know why we close every Christian worship service with this davidic prophecy of dwelling in the house of the Lord forever. We do that because it's our anticipation of the forward looking eternal fellowship with God. This gets us really excited becauae heaven is our most glorious promise and reward. Indeed, if any believer isn’t excited about heaven, then they need to check their life. Everything we do in this life should be geared toward the day we see Jesus face-to-face. So, this verse is a reminder of our eternity with God.

No doubt, thoughts about God and heaven remains majestic mysteries! The exact location of heaven has been a question to most people. But, the Bible assures us it's a real place: a realm of breathtaking beauty and wonder. Like, David, I envision and long for it joyfully as a dimension beyond my comprehension, where love, joy, and peace converge eternally in perfect harmony. No reason to doubt heaven's reality when already we have seen the beauty of thela world created by God; when we have learnt of the vast expanse of the universe, with an estimated 100 billion galaxies, each a sprawling myriad of stars, planets, and wonders waiting to be discovered. And they are made by the same God, the Master Architect, who has prepared a heavenly sanctuary for Himself, within this vastness, from where He reigns supreme.

O how I long to see that glorious place, where my savior, Jesus Christ, dwells. And, that's all that truly matters. It's a realm where redemption and restoration converge, where every tear is wiped away, and every heart is filled with unbridled joy. As believers, we can rejoice in the promise of heaven, our eternal home. We don't have to be weighed down by the burdens of this world. Instead, we can walk with confidence, our heads held high, knowing that a glorious destiny awaits us: we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. We shall experience a bliss that surpasses our wildest dreams. There, we shall have everlasting joy and peace, and experience unending worship that echoes through eternity with all tribes and tongues.

Quote for the Day: "The promise of an eternal home fills the heart with hope and purpose. It guides our journey and inspires us to live consisyent and worthy life in the world." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the promise of heaven, a place of eternal joy, peace, and reward. I ask that You make my heart be pure, my mind renewed, and my spirit be filled with Your presence and prepare me for heaven. Help me to live a life that is worrhy of your presence — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
