Today’s Text: Proverbs 15:1-10
Key Verse: Proverbs 15:3 (NIV): “The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.”
I went to minister in an occasion earlier this year, and because of the mask, my host did not recognize me. Well, I thought they did when they sat me at the high table, but I only realized they did not when they were announcing to find out if I had arrived or not. So, I took off the mask. “Wow, someone can owe a creditor and confidently walk before them under the mask.” My host said. This situation, and his remarks, remind me of the history of mask festival in Basel, Switzerland. Each year, the people observe a festival of masks, in which they go through the city doing things they would ordinarily never consider doing except under masks; and going to places they would never go under normal circumstances. The mask, which veiled their identity emboldened them to do these things. One year, concerned about the abandonment of moral standards, the Salvation Army puts up signs all over the city, which read, "God sees behind the mask."
This is exactly the idea of today’s text for us. We are reminded that God sees behind the mask. We cannot mask off the omniscient God no matter how thick our coverings are. God’s eyes are in every place, and there is no secret thing ever masked that is not naked and open unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. The words of Psalms 139 makes this even clearer. The same was declared in biblical prophets and writing, Jeremiah 23:24. The Lord sees all things. The Apostle Paul also says, in Hebrews 4:13, that everything, day or night, prosperity or adversity; imagination or machination, tangible or intangible, are all absolutely visible to God, whose eyes see through even to the innermost sanctuary of the soul, discerning our most secret places, and knowing all thoughts and intents of our heart. We may cover our sins that no man may know. But we cannot hide it from God.
Quote for the Day: “God is aware when our fellowship is born out of an in-genuine spirit. To the blinded humans, it is fun; but to the all-knowing God, it is foul.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to live my life conscientiously and glorify You each day — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
